Our Bathrooms: Before and After Photos

As you might recall, back in January, Brian and I began remodeling our hall and master bathrooms. I wrote about the first step--painting the walls--in this blog post.

Now, five months later, the bathrooms are finally finished, and I am super excited to share the before and after photos.

Here's a look at our master bathroom in December before the remodel...






And here's our new master bathroom...

I love the travertine flooring (from Lowe's) and the granite counter top (from Granite Outlet).


I'm also pleased with the way the bathtub surround (also travertine tile) turned out.


Speaking of the bathtub, I snapped this picture from inside it. I've got to be honest: It felt a bit strange to be sitting there fully clothed. :-) Anyway, I shot this photograph, so I could highlight this pretty piece of art that I found in Target. Yep, you read that right: Target.


Every bathtub has to have candles, right?! This trio of candle vases, which I found at Home Goods recently, fits the bill nicely.

I'm a big fan of white towels. They are so versatile and easy to clean (read: bleach).

And I'm still on the hunt for a piece of art for above the towel rack.

And here's a look at our new hall bathroom...

A few notes on this bathroom:
- As you can see, I chose granite (albeit a different style) for the counter top in this bathroom.

- While shopping in Wal-Mart a month ago, I found this orchid and brought it home. Surprisingly, I've yet to kill it. :-) Just three ice cubes a week and it's happy.

-Although not pictured, the flooring is a neutral color porcelain tile--similar in color to the walls.

-The white shower curtain (from Target) has a nice waffle texture to it--much like a robe you might wear at a spa. Love it!




While browing Pinterest recently, I saw this Holstee Manifesto poster and instantly knew I wanted to display it in our hall bathroom. If only to serve as a reminder to me of the important things in life.

Well, that concludes the tour of our newly-remodeled bathrooms.

Goodbye Pale Pink, Hello Wise Owl.

There's a b-i-g grin on my face
because our master bathroom remodel
is officially underway.


Last night, Brian and I began painting the walls.

It's {goodbye} to Pale Pink, and {hello} to Wise Owl.


We experimented with Snip of Tannin--the go-to neutral paint in our first house and the color we painted my current office/scrapbooking room in July.

But we chose Wise Owl instead because it's a bit darker.

According to Dan, a Kelly-Moore paint specialist in Rocklin, Snip of Tannin and Wise Owl are their two most popular neutral colors. Good to know!

And here's a picture of the tub area while the painting was in progress. On the left wall, you'll see both Wise Owl and Snip of Tannin paint. This was our test wall.

We've painted only one coat on the walls, but so far, I'm very pleased.

Some of the paint also ended up in my hair (whoops!), but luckily, it blends in nicely with my blonde highlights. :-)

My hope is that we'll be able to finish rolling on the second coat by this weekend.

The rest of this project, however, will not be happening overnight. This is a "marathon" project of sorts--one that will require me to be patient. Those of you who know me well, know that I'm not a particularly placid person when it comes to remodel work.

So pray for me, okay? :-)

In all seriousness, I'm really going to try to go with the flow during this remodel.


After the walls are painted, the next step will be to tackle this pink and brown tile.

When we toured this house for the first time about a year ago, I distinctly remember walking into the master bathroom and thinking "Eeek...that tile is so ugly!" So ugly, in fact, that I've wanted to take a sledgehammer to it ever since we moved in.

I'm still deciding which tile to go with for the floor and the area surrounding the tub.

I found a beautiful, light brown travertine tile on a sample board at Home Depot, but it has to be special ordered, and HD requires that you buy at least a case of each product (and you can't return any unused pieces), so I'm going to visit a few tile stores in Rocklin before I make a final decision.

The good news? Once we decide on tile, we just have to buy it and then Hugo is going to install it. (Hugo is a professional tiler, who was highly recommended by a friend.)

After the tile has been laid, we'll move onto the sink, countertop, lighting fixture, and accessories.

Oh, how I can't wait to a-c-c-e-s-s-o-r-i-z-e! (I can put to good use all of the design tidbits I've gleaned watching hours of HGTV!)

I'm very excited to see our master bathroom take shape over the course of the next few months. And when it's {finally} finished, I'll share before and after pictures.
