For Today: May 17, 2010

I love this simple documentation idea from The Simple Woman's Daybook via Ali Edwards' blog:

FOR TODAY
May 17, 2010

Outside my workshop window...sits a hillside of green grass and brightly-colored wildflowers. Amid the foliage lies more than a dozen oak trees stretching up to the sky. Beyond that, is a house that is currently vacant and just went up on the market. Anyone interested in moving to the foothills and becoming our neighbors?!

I am thinking...about the many questions my fourth grade girls might ask during the Health and Human Development (aka Family Life) sessions that I'll be leading on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I have a feeling I might be repeatedly responding, "Please ask your parents about that!"

I am thankful for...my sense of sight. After participating in the "A Touch of Understanding" Braille-writing activity and cane-walking exercise last week and reading a biography about Louis Braille in class today, I appreciate my ability to see much more.

I am wearing...pajama pants, a "May is Bike Month" t-shirt and a CSUS hooded sweatshirt.

I am creating...double-decker tacos for dinner while Brian tinkers with the septic system.

We are going...to watch "It's Complicated" tonight. Several people have told me it's really funny, so I'm looking forward to it. Plus, one of my favorite actors right now, John Krasinski (aka Jim Halpert from The Office) is in it.

I am reading...The Way I See It by Temple Grandin. Ms. Grandin is a 60-year-old woman who speaks candidly about her personal experience with Asperger's syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder. Fascinating read.

I am hoping...that the nearly 100 teachers who are getting laid off in my district will be able to find new jobs quickly.

I am hearing...the computer whirring, the heater blowing, the dog's collar clink-clinking and the muffled sounds of the television downstairs.

Around the house...I'm blogging and Brian is watching television. One dog is restlessly walking the hallway and the other is passed out on the carpet. Perhaps, Rudy needs to go out; I better finish this up quick!

One of my favorite things...is sending old-fashioned greeting cards to friends and family.

A few plans for the rest of the week...work, grading last-minute assignments, blogging and catching up on The Amazing Race and The Office.

A picture to share...

Happy Birthday, Mom!

I love this post! It still must be chilly up in Colfax from your comments about the heater running and you wearing a sweatshirt! It was 85-90 today and I enjoyed laying in the sun by the pool! I get such a good sense of what you're up to by these posts! :)
