Color Inspiration #39: For a Special Teacher!

It's time for another Color Inspiration card!

This photograph by Kristina Werner grabbed my attention--what a whimsical and colorful image! Candy always makes me think of kids...and you know how I love kids! So, I decided to create a card for a special teacher. (Teachers just adore receiving cards from their students!)

With the teacher theme in mind, I began rummaging through my stamp cases looking for my A Muse stamp that says, "for a SPECIAL teacher!" Once I located it, I pulled out the five solid color papers, along with a few coordinating patterned papers.

I knew I wanted the card to contain a variety of circles in differing colors and sizes. So, I punched out tons of circles and then began arranging and rearranging them. Although I was happy with the arrangement of the dots, the red and green dots just looked way too plain. (Ugh!) So, I grabbed my Stampin Up! polka dot stamp and a Versamark ink pad. I stamped the polka dots right onto the paper dots, leaving a watermark impression. I could have done the same thing to the yellow dot, but that would have been b-o-r-i-n-g! Instead, I stamped it with a mesh patterned stamp, which provides it with just a bit of texture.

At this point, I'm thinking, "Man, this card is really coming together!"

And then...WHAM...a creative surge came out of nowhere. (That doesn't happen very often, so I was excited!)

When you think of a teacher, what inanimate object pops into your head?! An apple, right?!

(I know some of you who went to Catholic school back in the day probably thought of a yard stick or a ruler. Ouch!)

Back to the apples...what three colors do they come in? None other than red, yellow, and green!

And I just happened to have a little apple punch...it couldn't have been more perfect.

To finish off the card, I added the green "for a SPECIAL teacher!" strip, along with black and white stitched ribbon. I used my Stampin' Up! scalloped edge punch along the bottom edge of the card. But I wanted to add a little more color and dimension, so I adhered two more scalloped edges--in yellow and red. (I saw that technique in the new SU! catalog!)

Back to color...black, yellow, and red.

Hmm, the exact colors found on the German flag! I know...I'm so random! It's just that I've been doing quite a bit of reading lately on Deutschland. :-)
